Hard Reset Rns 510 User

Got into my 2010 TDI Golf this morning and turned on the radio, no sound. This is the RCD 510 Premium 8 with the touch screen, something I really liked about the car when I bought it 2 year ago. There was no sound on anything I tried. So I tried pushing the Mute button. Then the Mute icon came on, but wouldn't go away and still no sound. Things were sluggish as if the Mute button might have really been stuck. Tried turning on/off the ignition, resetting factory defaults, and a bunch of other stuff. Nothing helped.
Got worse. Later in the day I turned the car on, and the radio wouldn't even power up.
Finally, on these forums I found a reset sequence. I held the power button in for > 30 seconds. The radio powered up and sound is back and everything is ok now. I'm pretty sure this was not in the manual. I looked, but didn't see it. Anyways, glad for this forum. Thanks to the guys who posted that reset sequence. Saved me having to drive to the dealer.
